city. they have plans to move on the capital. it's part of a very bloody, bloody regional war. it's seen atrocity on both sides. it's cost millions of lives. you've been very vocal about it. what should the u.s. be doing here? >> this is the greatest humanitarian crisis that nobody has ever heard of. somewhere between 3 to 4 million people have been killed in the last few years. you have uganda that spilled across the border. the eastern congo is an ungoverned space that many different rebel groups have come into. there's hundreds and thousands of internally displaced persons. what the u.s. can do is send a high-level and bring a peace deal forward. we can help train security forces. we already have. that battalion is incredibly effective. we can engage -- and i can't emphasize this enough. people are dying. rape is an enormous problem in this part of the world. if you have rule of law and security, you can save hundreds and thousands, if not millions of lives and there's great opportunity. it's a place where we can be more involved in. >> i'm glad that you can be vocal about it.

looking for trouble. we also saw our first fatality of the protest last night on sunday in a northern city where a 15-year-old member of the muslim brotherhood youth movement was clubbed to death. at this point the brotherhood doesn't seem to be using that fatality as a rallying cry to shore up support. but at the same time, it doesn't seem to be any indication that this conflict is coming to an end any time soon. the leaders of the opposition faction continue to demand mr. morsi to rescind his decrees. we just spoke to one of his senior advisers a couple of hours ago. he wants dialogue with the leading opposition factions. he didn't say anything about these decrees today. there are talks scheduled with the judges. but at this hour, no talks scheduled with the opposition factions. tomorrow big protests on both sides. both the opposing factions and mr. morsi the muslim brotherhood calling for 1 million man protests. >> interesting timing, of course, as they try to negotiate some kind of a peace treaty there or at least continuing relation of talks with the peace talks reza sayah for us. >>>

square today. morsi's opponents clashing with supporters in cities all over egypt. we're now hearing protesters storming the office of the muslim brotherhood and throwing out books and chairs and other things onto the streets. steve harrigan streaming live from cairo with the latest. hi, steve. >> reporter: gregg, behind me we're seeing the start of violence at this major demonstration in cairo. you see crowds off to my right, the tens of thousands who have gathered here beginning to run. we've seen tear gas fired as well as molotov cocktails. this big crowd here today, the biggest we've seen in some time, is really in reaction to what the new egyptian president did yesterday, muhammad morsi issuing some stunning information, first, that any decree he issues will be legal and that any declaration he issues is final and cannot be appealed by anyone, including the courts. the new egyptian president has basically, on paper, put himself above the law here saying the courts have no say, and obviously, there's a lot of people -- tens of thousands of egyptians -- who are not happy with it.
